I need to know if I'm paranoid or just too hormonal. I'm 13 weeks along today. I started having almost stabbing pains, along with other cramping, they were so bad they woke me up. I called the "24 nurse line" at 7am & was told they'd page the nurse & call back.

Nurse never called. I called back about 40 minutes later & was told it was an answering service & they failed to contact anyone else. I was then told my doctor wasn't in until 10, to call back then if I continued to have pain & lay in bed till then. I called about 10:15, they said they'd call me back after talking to my doctor. At 12 they call me back & AGAIN tell me they'd check with my doctor. At 1:30 they FINALLY call me back & say I need to stay home from work for a couple days & rest, no need to come in for any type of work up.

Pains continued, although they aren't as bad. Im very upset with how this was handled, but being my first pregnancy I dont know if I'm overreacting. Was this anything close to proper response?

I wasn't trying to get a diagnosis, I was simply trying to get an appointment. In every convo I had with people I asked if I should go to the ER, they said no unless I started having bleeding. I was told from day 1 if any of the things that were on a list they gave me happened I was to call the 24 nurse hotline & they'd tell me if I should go to the ER or make me an appointment for that morning. The waiting was simply them trying to figured out if they wanted to get me in for an appointment or not. I'll fully admit I have no clue to do in these situations, first pregnancy & the few prengant women I've been around have had zero problems. Totally out of my zone of knowledge here.

I don't think you are overreacting. I think you are correct. That was not a proper response. If for no other reason than to calm you down they should have called you in.

I would change OB's. I am sure you can go to the nearest emergency room and ask for a referral. There are probably nurses there that have been pregnant themselves and know good OB's.

No no no!! Do not make yourself feel bad about this situation and think you need to be on a diet. What needs to be done is that people need more MANNERS! I hate this statement more than anything. I hate that people don't think before they open their mouths. My story: One month after I had my daughter I was at the car dealership getting my car inspected. They have a man who drives your car around for you when it's done. I had my daughter in my arms and was wearing one of those peasent tops that makes it look as if you are still preg. However, I still had my baby belly anyway. The man took my keys from the cashier and said, "Guess your daughter will have a new brother or sister soon. When are you due?" It took me about 5 seconds to realise what this old man was saying to me. I am never at a loss for comebacks as I poked his beer gut and said.."Probably around the same time your baby is due." At that he walked away, speechless and understanding that he was a complete jerkoff. Asking someone if when they are "due" is the worst thing you can ask a woman. And I hope other people read this and understand that you JUST NEVER ASK A WOMAN THAT. And to answer your Q: I have been asked the same question at my workplace by a customer and gave the same response. They never complained. Because when you make someone feel bad for being a jerk, they are too embarrassed to complain.

Honey, you don't need the stress that even reading all of these possibilities will bring. Go to the ER. You will have peace of mind that is worth everything when pregnant. You tell the doctor that you want to come in ASAP after the ER visit and you tell him what you just shared with us...then, you ask him if he wants to be your doctor. This is your baby...and you have every right to be worried, concerned, nervous....you do what you need to do to have a healthy child. The office was NOT DOING its job at all. Now, go to the ER. Good luck...hugs.

They should have had you come in. Even if nothing was wrong they should examine you to determine that or not. You may want to go to urgent care if the pain keeps going. Doctors these days are under a lot of pressure from insurance companies, so a lot of them don't really treat the patients like they should. They suck!

You have every reason to be be upset. You are having the signs of a miscarrige. I am not by any means saying you are having one, but that is some of the signs usually involving bleeding though. In my opinion, you should be upset and might need to visit your local ER. Good Luck!

i had a doctor that I called. He didnt' call till the next day. I was 16 weeks pregnant. I quit him and hired a midwife. Doctors don't give pregnant women the care they need. Next time go to ER where they HAVE to look at you NOW. That is not proper... no. Don't accept that.

If you are really concerned you should have just went to the ER or doctors office the next morning. They cant evaluate you over the phone anyhow... I would of just went to the doctor instead of called... It is normal to be concerned while pregnant and always follow your intuition...

I'd be mad if any drs office did that to me. This is my third pregnancy, and the way I see it- if I'm freaking out about something, you are being paid to tell me what's going on, if you don't want to stand up to your job then I'll go pay someone who will.
