We need more information!

What programs were running? Do you hear the fan running?

If you can't describe what's wrong with it, you should probably just take it in to get looked at (wherever you bought it).

It could be a heat issue...open up your case and get all the dust out of there. Make sure you pull the power supply cord from the back first. Personally I use a small vacuum to do it...make sure you get all the fans including the one in the back for the power supply. When you restart it leave the case open to make sure all the fans are running.

can you get pass the boots screens or is it random. If you are in the xp screen with start and stuff then its a heat problem. You probably have a celeron which heats up. Try cooling it down or opening the case while running your computer. Or if you don't get pass the boot screen then its a problem with the .dll files or the hives. In which case you need to reinstall.
