If its out of the anus then its obvious what it is and the fish are quiet likely constipated.
If however, its all over there body i would suggest you check the water quality for this to happen as you are suggesting they've increased the amount of slime on there bodies to protect themselves from something and its either worked and they're now disposing of it or its failed and whatever is attacking there bodies causing them to loose the protection of the slime.

Test pH and ammonia, these are the 2 most likely causes, pH below 5 will do damage to fish not used to acidic water, above 8 will increase the damage that ammonia can do.

Your fish have parasites.I suggest you buy a medicine for parasites.Walmart,Petco,Petsupermarket,etc.You could buy it in a liqiud which is stronger or in tabs.If its on every fish i suggest to get the liquid. When your pour the liquid into your aquaruim, make sure there is no carbon.(in other words, turn off you filter)Keep your water temperature between 65 and 75.When the parasites come off keep on appling the medicine for 2 more days. One important thing you have to check for is if your aquarium is overcrowded.Too much stress can cause parasites. Also buy a p.H. test kit and test your water for things like amonia, nitrate levels, acids, etc. These are many of athousands of reason why your fisn may have parasites
