First off, I want to say I am not bashing Christians, because I myself believe in God. The question I want to ask is, why do Christians judge other people when in the bible it says not too. I know that we all judge others in some way, shape or form. But why do people feel they have the right to tell other people it's morally wrong to have an abortion or to have a same sex marriage. We are not God, so who are we to say what’s right and wrong. Honestly, is it your any of your business? I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as it’s not causing harm to anyone else.
You don’t have to condone abortion or same sex marriages, but you shouldn’t have any say so in if it’s wrong or right.
Also, do you think it’s a good idea to mix your religious beliefs with your political views?
Note: I am not generalizing; I am talking to those who do it.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm not at all religious myself, and I have been lucky that I have met many people who identify themselves as "Christians" who actually seem to walk the walk.
There is a loud, obnoxious group who seem to use Christianity as a tool for supporting their own flawed psychological disorders and various other insecurities. I was once at a party with a bunch of "religious right" types who were comdemning homosexuality, alcoholics and drug addicts. When they told me that Paul condemns homosexuality in Romans, I pointed-out that Paul also says, "Yes, homoxexuality is a sin BUT a sin is a sin is a sin, and all sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord." I argued that homosexuality may indeed be a sin, but it was no worse than their own judgment or jealousy or envy, etc.
Well, that went over like a lead balloon. I asked them if they thought Jesus would rather attend a Pat Boone concert or spend his time with alcoholics. I also asked them why it is that conspicuous Christians only seem to be obsessed with condemning the the "fun" sins like fornication and inebriation. Why don't they expend their energies on things like fear, jealousy, vulgarity, etc.?

I think you really need to read your description over again. You make reference to the Bible about what you need to prove your point, but you seem to either have not read or completely ignored the rest of the Bible. The Bible gives us Christians a basis from which we are able to rationally and intelligently determine what actions are right and wrong. As a real Christian, you are correct, we cannot judge others. That doesn't mean, however, that we cannot judge their actions. As Christ said, "Hate the sin and love the sinner." I personally am not human or God-like enough to judge any other human being. But I am smart enough to know that when 2 living things are combined, they can only produce another living thing. And if that living thing becomes a human, then an abortion is the killing of a human. Further logic would say that if we can abort at any given time of the pregnancy, why can't we abort after birth? Just a thought.

I think we all mix our political beliefs with our religious ones. A great mistake people make is to keep them or believe they should be separate. Our own faith is a HUGE part of who we are and therefore is going to naturally express itself in the public sphere where issues are decided.
Now I try desperately not to judge others, but we all do. I try to at least withhold judgment until I get more info and not base it on first impressions.
My own problem with many Christians (I am a practicing Catholic) is that I feel come down with statements as to this is how God feels. I do not pretend to read God's mind, and believe it is arrogant to do so. Therefore my beliefs end up all over the political spectrum because I am trying to keep it as consistent within my beliefs as possible (abortion and death penalty can religiously be viewed as the same). Another example is Bush saying God is on our side in this struggle, how does he know that? Lincoln never claimed God was on his side - he prayed it was, but never assumed it.
Damn good question

Many people are Christians because that is what their parents were. Not because they have any kind of deep understanding of what it means to be Christian. Got up to a typical Methodist, Baptist, Pentacostal, etc. and ask them why they are that particular denomination. Bet ya they have no clue. The most common answer you'll get is my folks raised me that way. There's also the group that claims that religious scripture can be interpreted any way you want to interpret it. Like the people who believe that the passage "an eye for an eye" is biblical justification for revenge. They haven't bothered to read the next sentence. Most people who talk about religion aqre just using it to reinforce their already warped ideas.

Being Christian and judging not, does not mean go through life blind. We make judgements every day and every time we make a decision.. this is part of the learning process. If you look at the whole chapter you will find it is refering to unrighteous judgements. Such as when you gossip or spread rumours or if you judge someone without any real knowledge of who they are. When it comes to my daughter I will judge plenty... even biased judgement if I don't like the way he looks or carries himself. I have the responsibility of protecting my daughter and my sons and wife... basically my family. I will not put them in possible harms way just to appear to be unjudgemental. There is evil out there... it does exist. We have the light of Christ or our "conscious" for the non-christians, the help us determine right from wrong. We are born with this sense. God and government also gave us certain laws. When one breaks those laws, It also says in the scriptures, "it is given to some to judge" and deal with it appropriatly. Everyone thinks that to be Christian you must be tollerant to everything. This is untrue. The Lord wants you to stand up for your beliefs. To lead by example. To share with everyone the gospel. The Lord himself kicked out the moneychangers from the Temple. Yes, Gos will judge everyone. It is impossible for us to judge one for their "LIFE'S WORK" as we are not privy to his hearts desires, his thoughts and ALL his actions. But for those we do know about and have assessed through observation and their deeds... we can and should make a judgement for our own benefit. Again, I don't need my children hanging out with those that would bring them down and neither do I for that matter....
As usual... great question.

First let me say I do not think it is a good mix when politics and religion are spoken together. But in answer to your question the Bible does tells you about taking a life and same sex relations. Not marriage specifically but being togeher in the Biblical sense. There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians the can talk the talk(scripture)but can not walk the walk(doing what God wants)The way we are to live are lives is spelled out in the Bible you just have to read it to find it.

"Judge not, lest ye be judged" The bible doesn't say not to judge, only that judgement will bring judgement. If you're a Christian then you believe you will be judged and that you have a conscience so that you too may make judgements - about yourself and others. To judge others is not the same as acting on those judgemnts in a punitive way. So, I think abortion is murder and while I have a right to say and think that, I have no legal or moral right to act on that judgement other than to express moral outrage at the taking of an innocent life.
But may I answer your question more braodly?
"Who are we do say what's right and wrong?" All law is about telling someone what is right and wrong and coercing their compliance. And we do indeed act on those judgements, don't we? Robbers and rapists are imprisoned. Should we not judge and act? Why is this judgement different than what you narrowly address? I don't think it is. I live by my conscience and when I die I will answer for it. God will judge me and I hope He is more merciful than just.
Have a nice day.

Why deal with conservatives? Isn't this bigger fitted to Christians? Well, you desire a conservative viewpoint and as a conservative atheist, I will reply. Since your god is entirely imaginary and your holy guide is not anything however bull feces, depending for your fictitious god to pass judgement on matters is absurd. So we must make selections as to what's quality for society, instead than looking ahead to an imaginary buddy to repair matters. Who are we to mention what's correct and what's unsuitable? We are society. That is strictly what we will have to do and what we have to do. You are correct whilst you mentioned we aren't god. God does no longer exist and we do. That makes us past infinitely extra robust than him and extra in charge for figuring out correct and unsuitable. You have made up our minds that homosexual marriages are adequate and that abortions are adequate. You think you may have the correct to make that resolution by means of pronouncing we, as a society, are not able to inform humans no. Well spanky, it is going each approaches. We too have the correct to make a decision what's quality for society and what's unsuitable for society. As participants of that society we will have to have a say, as you certainly consider otherwise you might no longer be telling the relaxation of society to take delivery of your perspectives. Do I feel faith will have to have any say in politics? No. But faith defines the best way a few humans feel and the values they have got. And as participants of society, their values form their political opinions and hence the politics of society. Note: I am no longer generalizing. I am principally calling you a hypocrite.

The rule to not judge others is a tough one.
When trying to understand the Bible, it is important to always use exegesis not isogesis.
When you take meaning from the text IN CONTEXT, that's exegesis.
When you pull out a Bible verse to fit a presupposition, that's isogesis.
It's important to know that "do not judge others lest ye be judged" is simply saying, "don't decide to tell anyone they are doomed to hell" because that is up to God alone.
Christians often point out the clear indicators of what God requires of us WITHOUT judging but society claims that it is judging because the well known verse was ripped out of context and is an incomplete message in its popular state.
It is also not judging to name a sin witnessed.
If I were seen stealing something, to call me a thief is not judging me, it is obvious. Naming a confessed sin is also not judging. If I tell you I stole something and you call me a thief, that is also not judging. It is naming a sin.
It's also okay to quote God when he say, "All liars will have their part in a lake of fire" in order to connect the sin to Gods stated punishment as long as we don't say, "God condemns you to hell." or something definitive like that.
Anyway, I hope this helps.

one nation under GOD. when someone is have sex everyday, doing drugs, and having abortions, it is easy to say, "hey thats wrong". No one knows who goes to hell, but its pretty easy to judge who is on the path to hell. Killing life is wrong, so having an abortion IS WRONG. Having same sex marriage is wrong, sorry. marriage should be between a man and a woman, thats it. everyone should mix religious beliefs with political views, who would vote for an athiest that doesnt believe in God for the simple reason of laziness. Being hedonistic is the only reason people turn athiest. Sorry, there is right and wrong, and in the Bible it cleary says that.
