That's a totally individual decision. It depends on your relationship with her. Of course she'd keep everything confidential (hopefully), but if you would feel uncomfortable with her knowing all your stuff, then go somewhere else.
I'm a midwife, and my two daughters came to my practice for their prenatal care and to have their babies. I saw them as patients, and attended their births, with another midwife with me. (I did not want to be responsible if there were complications.)
It was a great experience, awesome!
I saw everything in their charts, of course, and neither of them minded, because they pretty much tell me everything anyway, I guess. But I made it clear to them that if there were things they did not want me to know, they should see one of my partners, and I would not be offended.
I have also taken care of quite a few friends, and friends' daughters -- for everything from gyn exams, prenatal care, and even STDs. We keep things very professional in our office, as I'm sure your gynecologist does.
So there's really not a right or wrong thing to do. But it's VERY important that you feel comfortable in your gynecologist's office.

Well she wouldn't be able to tell any other family members - it would be a HIPPA violation. Perhaps you can pick and choose when you see her. If it's for something you really want kept personal - pick a day she's off or when she's on lunch break or don't let the staff know that you're her sister in law. If it's for something routine, then I don't see why not, especially if the 2 of you are friendly.

I would mind. I think doctors, dentists, therapists, etc. should be someone other than family. Even if she keeps her mouth shut about your medical records (which she is required to do by law), I think if anything sensitive came up, it would just be more uncomfortable or awkward for you.
For example, if you were to get an infection or something, would you really want your sister-in-law to know about it? I find those types of things very personal; just as one should separate business from pleasure, I beleive we should also separate business from family.

I think that if you are apprehensive about it that it is better to choose another office. Family members often can't keep their mouths shut about confidential things even when they are bound by ethics to.
A lot of things can go on from a gynecological standpoint that you might not want your SIL to know so I would say don't do it. You can always refer back to her for extra advice.

Well I have 2 aunts that are RN's and it does come in handy to say the least.
As far as not being aloud to talk about the patience, well they are aloud to talk about a patience, they are just not aloud to give their name. If someone was to ask them about someone else, they would not be aloud to give that information out. Both of my aunt's have told me this.
By the way, I am not a kid, I am 50 years old. But it has come in handy having 2 RN's in the family.

Great news for your sister in law but honestly, I would not want her as My nurse. Things are private on your body and that would just be odd for her to see you in ways that you would not see yourself.
Plus, I've heard from nurses and doctors that they don't treat their own family members.

I would feel more comfortable if it was someone closer. My mom is a nurse. They have to keep things secret or they can lose there license.

I suppose it depends on how modest you are also. I myself would not have family members looking at my privates, but that's just me. If they were just going to wait on me as I was sick in bed (not the one that bathes me) I wouldn't mind. True, though, you might get better care if they love you!

They are technically not allowed to tell anyone about your personal information, however people do it anyway all the time. If you already have a gyno then just say you want to keep the one you have.
