They closed it down. I thought that was odd too esp since Vegas gets so hot in the summer. I read that they lost the lease on the land they were renting. It doesn't surprise me that it would go to condos or a casino.. that would make more money, but it was such a fun place away from all the other hundreds of condos & casinos already there. There was only one waterpark where your kids didn't have to hike through endless slot machines & tables.....sigh

Actually the park was quite successful as far as water parks go. It had healthy attendance, especially from locals who usually hate to venture to the strip. It closed solely because a 3000 room casino or condo tower makes a LOT more money than a water park ever could. Pure and simple economics, it wasn't the highest, best use of the land.

There was an article in the LVRJ a few days ago saying that someone was planning on building the biggest building in the western hemisphere on the site with 5000 condos. It would be 700 feet taller than the Stratosphere. I would put this into the "Dream" catagory if for nothing else, the FAA wont let anything that tall be built in McCarran's flight path. They griped pretty hard about the Strat when it was built.

My wife and I were actually lamenting the closing of WnW a few days ago. We will be in LV next week and it was a great way to spend a hot afternoon away from the casino even for adults. I have a scan of the property map on my site if anyone is interested in how the place looked before it closed.

it closed on 26 September 2004, current plans are to build a 1888ft tower on the site, everything has been approved as they are outside the restricted height imposed on buildings within 3 miles of McCarran; at present they just need the approval of the military which should come on or before July 14th (hopefully).
