ok here's the scoop. I've been doing Gymnastics for the last 5 years. This year i just started the 'level Gymnastics'. Before that i just did practice w/ my coach. I'm a level 4 at age 12. I'm thinking about quiting because lots of kids at level 4 are 6or7.

ANY ADVICE?

Sports are rough. Gymnastics is probably one of the roughest. One of the worst parts of it is that there is only a limited time that your body can handle it.
My advice is that if you're having fun, keep going with it. If you feel stupid where you are, see if you can continue just practicing privately with your coach, or maybe competition isn't for you.
Either way, the only thing that matters is that you're having fun. When I was the oldest on the team, I sort of became the "big sister," and it was kind of fun. You'd be surprised at how much faster you'll pick up on certain things than the younger ones, though it's a little weird right now.
What it really comes down to is what you'll regret more--quitting now because you feel too old, or feeling old and doing something you love.
I hope you make the decision that will make you happiest!

ok well I am 13 and I did non competting gymnastics for 5 years and competing for 3! I was 10 on level 4 and all the rest of the girls were 6 and 8 and they were very good! I immeadiatly thought about quitting but then I realized I loved gymnastics more than anything and kept with it! When I reached level 5 I was so happy cause the girls were older than me but that didn't make a difference! I loved gymnastics and was not gonna give up! Then while on level 5 I had a bad fall and was scared to do anything and we kept changing coachs and my coach made me try it everyday which made me more scared. I finally overcame my fear but realized I was only doing gymnastics for my coach so I quit. I very much regret quiting because I still love it but now I do tumbling and it is fun! So don't quit just because they are younger than you~ If you love the sport than you will stick with it! Just make sure you are doing the sport because you love it not just because someone is making you!

If you love gymnastics, then I wouldn't quit. If you work really hard and get all of your skills for level 5 maybe you could compete a couple of meets as a level 4 and then move up to level 5 in the same season. I coach gymnastics and we have 6-13 year olds on our level 4 team. Don't quit because of your age though!

I was 12 when i first competed level four. Now i am 15 and im a level 7-8. One thing i noticed at the meets was that even tough the level fours at my gym were younger then me, there were other older L4s at the meets... in fact some of the stiffest competition was in the older age group.

But chances are, if the thought crosses your mind there are other reasons your are considering quitting. Is that really why you are thinking about this? or is there some other underlying reason?

Really think about this before you do it... so many girls quit and regret it. They come back to gym a few months later and they expect themselves to be exactly where they left off. When they see that its gonna take a little more work to get back to where they were, they quit for good.

Gymnastics is so much fun and you have worked so hard to get to where you are now! Everyone is diffrent and i think that you are the only one that knows the full story and the only one that can make this choice!

you shouldn't quit because of the age range in your level i was going to do the Junior Olympic levels at the age of 15 i would have been a pre-level 5 along with one of my friends. instead our coach asked if we wanted to do prep-opp. with is more like high school gymnastics where you can make up your own routines and have fun with it. Maybe you should ask your coach if you can do that or if that is an option. but it's up to you if you want to stop doing gymnastics. if it is something that you love to do then don't

Well if you've done gymnastics for 5 years then it depends because if you enjoy the sport and your not worried about going to the olympics or stuff like that then you should stay but if you feel a bit ood coz the others are younger than you then you could always try a different club and ask to be put with your age group!

Hope i've helped!

If you really love gymnastics, you should'nt let your age get to you! Sure you might not go to the olymics or anything, but as long as your having fun and are happy, who cares? ive known lots of level 4's from my gym that are that age or older. Gymnastics is such a fun sport, dont let a stupid factor like age ruin it for you!

It depends....

Why are you going gymnastics? Because you enjoy it no matter what? Because it is good exercise and you'd rather do it than something else?

or

Because you are trying to get to Level 10, best is all that matters, etc.

If the former...keep with it and never mind what others think. If you enjoy it, keep with it. If the latter, you may as well quit.

same thing happened to me. i quit and started cheerleading. i like it a lot more than gymnastics. it's more fun. I found that gymnastics was very stressful and competitive. cheerleading is more fun. you could condsiter that. what you need to do is ask yourself what's important to you. do you love gymnastics? do you want to continue doing gymnastics on a competitive level? does it really bother you who you do gymnastics with? do you see yourself being a gymnast in the future.

answer those questions and follow your heart (it sounds cliche, but it's always true)

Don't think of the other kids.
im 16 when i was 12..I did Karate ... i was an orange belt(only the third belt) at yur age.
And there were some 8-9 year olds that were also at that belt..

But i loved karate so i stayed with it i didnt care what the other kids did..
As long as you try hard like i did i skipped 3 belts. and i was the only 13 year old with a brown belt.(White, yellow, orange, blue, green, brown, red, black)

So i say if yu love it as much as i loved karate it'll bring yu somewhere. But thats if yu can do it for yurself and no one else.
