tonto was NOT a ranger....he was an indian...so in fact the ranger was.....a ....LONE ranger

Tonto called him the Lone Ranger because the group of Texas Rangers he was with was attacked by the Gabbendish outlaws and their was only one ranger left; hence The Lone Ranger. All the rest were killed.

You misunderstood -- he was actually called the "Loaner Ranger"; Tonto just got stuck with him while his regular Ranger was in the shop.

If he were by himself, he would be the Alone Ranger. He was the only Ranger left. It does not sound right to call him the Only Ranger.
