i cannot connect to intrnet after givig static IP to router setting. my ISP gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the router gateway is also the same. I have tried different setting of gateway for router. but when i connect the router as a different IP on the lan port , the internet connects but does not show the router on the network , only shows the DSL.

It sounds like you are trying to connect a router to a Broadband modem/router combination unit. Sorry you can not do this. If you want to use the wireless router as just a access point then turn off the DHCP server in the linksys router and pluf the ethernet cable from your modem/router to the ethernet port on the router, DO NOT USE THE WAN (INTERNET) PORT ON THE ROUTER, only the ethernet ports. This will allow your Modem?router to control the DHCP assigning but will allow wireless computers to access your network.

You need to assign a 192.168.1.xx to your router,, different from your gateway. you can set your router to:
IP 192.168.1.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Make sure you connect your DSL modem to the WAN port on your router, if you go into one of the ethernet ports instead, you are using it as a wireless switch only, therefor you wont be able to see it on the network.
