Why do people live to survive? This is what confuses me - Most people wake up, go to school/work and hate it, come home, do jobs around the house/home-work/look after the kids/make the tea and go to bed. Then they wake up and do exactly the same thing the day after. Why!? This shoulden't be what life's about. I live to have fun, appreciate things, be happy and achieve. Apart from school (which I have to do) I live every day excitingly and differently. It actually scares me that people can trot through life doing absolute s**t and being ok about it - having conversations about the weather. Why can't everyone live like today is there last? Why can't people enjoy, embrace and discover life? I feel so strongly about people just sleepwalking through life and not doing anything worth talking about or anything that they can remember for ever. Does anyone understand what I'm talking about and are you some-one that likes to actually live without surviving? God must be ashamed.

You guys! I want to give you all an A+ but I can't (especially the first answer). My question has nothing to do with responsibility or jobs/work. I'm asking how come a lot of people pay more attention to the washing that has to be done rather than the beautiful sky that has just turned uniquely pink and orange. I understand that work is an important part of life but a lot of people seem to be without some-thing special these days that they love and I don't normally find a contrast in personalities these days.

As long as you feel that way I strongly suggest you don't get married or have children. Right now, in your life you have no responsibilities, so it's very easy to think the way you are thinking. Hell, I thought that way too. The fact is that the older you get the more responsibilities you acquire. BUT there's one thing that I, (the tired, droopy eyed father of two and husband to a tired yet beautiful wife), know that you don't yet. Yes I go to work and hate being away from my family, and Yes sometimes I even hate being at home because my new little buddy needs a new diaper, or has puked all over the coffee table, or the wife is crotchety because she had a rough day with the rugrats. But you know what I know that you don't know? I wouldn't trade it for the world. I work hard and long to make enough money for my wife and kids to eat, and get the latest disney movie on dvd, or a new bike because my daughter outgrew her last one. Yes I slave and slog, and I come home tired and sore. They are my responsibility, I like that they need me, I love them. That one second smile that I get from my wife after I kiss her hello, before she has to tear off and take care of another crisis. That moment of giggles while I'm playing with my son. The look in my daughters eye as she looks up at me and says "daddy can you tie my shoes" That makes it all worth it. As you get older you have to make a choice between quantity and quality...
Choose wisely :)

While I agree you do have a valid point I think that it's a bit of a stretch. Realize that in this life there are certain things that are a given, death and taxes being two. By your own admission and reasoning people should wake up embrace and discover life, yet you mention apart from school (which you have to do), if you have such a drive to experience life, enjoy it at it's finest, realize that school is one of the venues. You will learn later on in life that you do somethings that are not enjoyable for different purposes and often for those you love. I work hard because I want to be able to support myself and my loved ones. It's not something I enjoy doing but I enjoy the satisfaction of being able to provide for those I love the most. Just because the act may be un-enjoyable does not mean that it's not important or doesn't serve a purpose. Take for instance the CPR class I just took, it sucked being in traffic and having to drive all the way up there, not to mention the class was extremely boring, but now I know if one of my loved ones or even a stranger got in trouble I would have the know-how to do something about it. Just because something's pleasant does not make it a profitable experience.

Believe it or not some people grow up wanting the white picket fence the two kids and dog. The two car garage and a steady job. But that has never been for me. I think it is boring. I'm single and do what I want. I have had an interesting life already. Traveled had supernatural experiences and it will only get better. We are just different. Both my brother and sister have kids and live "the American dream". Snore.

Everyone must work and do those things in order to live it up!! How will you live it up with no cash from work.... taking care of a home and family itself is a good accomplishment in life..... It is something you earned...not everyone can up and buy a house or have a family that loves you! But some people in this world, yes, just walk gloomily through life just waiting for it to end! Cant explain them, but also cant explain why people murder and wrape and kidnap and do half the things crazy people do! Some people just arent all there mentally is what i tell myself...there is really no other explanation.... maybe they did not have a good childhood! Or maybe they were a crack baby...i dunno..

You should take some philosophy classes. I think that some people enjoy doing a lot of work. They get joy out of doing something with themselves, while others get joy out of skipping school and going snowboarding. Some people like to stay at home with their families while others hate being stuck inside all day. You cant judge people by how you think, because they might be having fun. Plus they probably end up making more money and can afford those trips to Cancun while everyone else is doing nothing because they spent all of their money.

The answer to your question is.... because it is amazing what you can get used to.
Life feels much richer if you can draw the positive from it. Positive is never advertised but that doesn't mean it's not there. A seemingly mundane lifestyle could feel very rewarding and rich to the subject, it's all down to how you perceive it.
Admittedly there are a lot of people who are stuck in a rut, they may never get out of. These are the people who have turned moaning into a sport, but what they don't seem to realise, is that they could actually choose to improve their situation, but they won't, because then they wouldn't be able to whine and moan.
Hope this helps.
Dave.

I don't think everyone's like that...I mean I have a routine life...go to school go home stuff like that, but every day I learn something new...I'm constantly thinking up new ideas and love to work out...most people got married and had kids b/c that was what they were supposed to do and now they hardly know themselves anymore...it's no surprise why 60% of marriages end in divorce...life isn't about having a good time anymore...it's about getting the best job to send your kid to private school so you can send them to a uni and your wife can shop all day...who knows what you'll be like when you get older...the older people get the more they settle w/ what they're given.

Your obviously very young, because at sometime in your life you have to be responsible. If that person does not have a lot of money they sometimes have to make choices between paying rent or mortgage to have a roof over their head or going out and blowing it on something to have "fun". Many people SEEM to have boring lives but they manage to have fun in ways you are not aware of. Every body has a different opinion on what is fun. Mine is playing with a 3 year old grandson, even if it is sitting in my front room floor playing cars. I enjoy going outside and watching the birds and watching wildlife pass by. Counting the eggs my guinea hen laid and keeping an eye on her to make sure her eggs are not bothered. Maybe not your idea of fun, but it sure is mine.

After you grow up there are different priorties other than the ones you have right now . Taking care of ones family , responsibilities , etc . Is what most people enjoy doing . They wouldn't have it any other way . There is a burn out factor in the type of life you are talking about . But enjoy it till then .
