It can, but it involves a lifestyle change if you didn't start out that way. You're still vulnerable, but in a different way and maybe not as often.. and not to as many people.

I would think the term keeping someone at arms length would be more likened to sparing yourself from pain and misery, not them. You keep someone at bay to keep them from entering your own personal space and that in and of itself seems more self protective.

Probably, but life is so much better with other people to share it with, laugh with..... and cry with if someone DOES let you down or hurt you. And besides, anything worth having could potentially cause you pain. Some of the best things that ever happened to me began because someone or something caused me heartache. How can you know how wonderful someone is, if you've never experienced the people who weren't?

Depends...if you keep people at bay, then yeah you avoid heart ache but you also miss out on alot of love...if you push people who you already know and care about away, then that doesn't solve anything or stop any pain,it only makes things worse.

i think that would be a lonely way to live ones life. People are born with the instinct to connect with others! That's not to say if you are experiencing abuse or negative vibes, you can't eliminate them from your personal contact. NO ONE deserves to be treated badly.
