Neon tetras are a great addition to any community tank. My favorites though are guppies. They come in many diferrent beautiful colors and are easy to breed - they're well priced too. You like "big" fish but a 20-gallon is not big enough for any larger species. Just a few smaller fish. Good luck and I hope you enjoy whatever fish you add!

A few things, you don't mention what cichlid you have, if you have a small type that's fine but even so dont add small tetra's if you want them to survive, the pleco depends on what type of pleco you have the most common as has been mentioned is a tank buster and easily exceeds 12in, and its not one that's limited by the size of your tank. your 4 barbs will also nip at anything with fins, you really need 6 or more of these so there aggression is contained within the group.
If the pleco is brown with darker brown speckles then you need to take him back before he grows any larger.
If the cichlid is a small one then i would suggest something for the mid to top half of the tank maybe hatchet fish, guppy's

Big fish DON'T like 20 gallon tanks! That Pleco will be longer than the tank! I wouldn't add anything, rather concentrate on getting a larger tank, like a 55 or even much more, especially since you have an interest in "large" fish.

That tank is allready overstocked! That pleco will get to the size of that tank! you said it was 23 inch by 12inch that isnt 20 gal its a 10 gallon ! Dont get anymore fish and get rid of the pleco, And you wanted to put an oscar in that tank ? RESEARCH FISH BEFORE YOU BUY! And if you like big fish GET BIG TANKS! 50-100 gallon tanks not 10 or 20 you can only keep small fish in those, And that pleco will get bigger than the tank! Fish boy .. How old are you?

Your tank is full. Besides a 20 gallon tank won't hold one large fish much less one large fish with all those others.

Well, if you want big fish then you should get a:
Bass
Bluegill
African Knifefish
American Arowana
Archerfish
or you can look at more here.

In a 20gal. (small) tank you can realistically only have about 20 inches of fish, if you expect them to be healthy. Get rid of them or get a big oscar, and it will eat them. Oscars are big , easy to keep, relatively pretty, and fun to feed. One thing about big fish is they will eat anything that they can fit into their mouths. You'd have even less space if it were a marine aquarium.
