I would say anyone who sleeps with the wife of his best friend and not to mention his King (to whom he has sworn fealty to) is certainly not a hero. But neither is he a villain.

I never liked the character of Lancelot - I thought he was a dishonorable and weak-willed individual.

A hero, of course! Only slightly misunderstood, and in somewhat difficult circumstances. He was the icon of chivalry.
