It would have to be Ted Williams he had a .344 life time batting average. he also had 521 home runs and most likely broke the babe's record for life time homers had he not lost 5 yrs to the service. He was the last player to hit .400 in a season

I'd have to say Ted Williams. Babe Ruth was great, but people remember him being a Yankee. His career was immortalized in his time with the Yankees. Ted Williams was a Red Sox and will always be remembered as a Red Sox. Cy Young and Jimmie Foxx were great, but Ted Williams is a baseball icon and a Boston legend.

I agree with Ted Williams - nobody did more for the Sox for a longer period of time than TW.
However, you could also make a good case for Yaz - Impossible Dream, '75, Triple Crown... Cy Young (most wins EVER in MLB)...
And, don't forget the Babe did play for the Sox - even though he went to NY, he started in Boston - so is the best player who didn't spend a whole career here?

Ted Williams by a mile!...Yaz is 2nd..Jim Rice maybe 3rd..Jimmie Foxx didn't play enough in Boston to make the top 3. Speaker the same.
As for pitches..well,,Clemens won the most, Smokey Joe Wood had the stretch and they did have a guy named Cy Young for a part..Clemens wins out.

Ted Williams is not only the greatest player in Red Sox history, but some would say he is the greatest player ever. He is, to many, known as "The Greatest Hitter who ever Lived".

It's not the Babe, he spent most of his career with the Yankees. I'd say... Williams, Yastremski, or Foxx. Jimmie Foxx hit a lot of home runs. Yastremski and Williams were good all around players. I'd have to go with Yastremski, he was a great player.
