My ex and I have been divorced for 4 years. We have two kids: a daughter, 13 and a son, 15. We have had various issues in the past where he has been irresponsible and used very poor judgement where the kids are involved. For example, 1 1/2 years ago, he left them in the care of his stepson's wife ( approx. 30 yrs old), who sent her 9 yr old out hunting w/out an adult. He accidentally shot my daughter with a .22 rifle, which caused her to need surgery to rebuild her thumb. New Year's Eve this year, the kids came back from their dad's that afternoon. We did not know my ex had given my son two bottles of toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil, which he used to blow up a 2 liter bottle while spending the night at our neighbors' house. This weekend he sent them with his 17 yr old daughter (who has1 mo old, and who he had not seen or talked to since she was 12, and not since she was 1 before that). She took our son out partying. What can I do to stop this from happening again?

You may have to petition the courts to revoke visitation rights as they consitiute child endangerment

Unfortunately your kids are over 13, if you go to court they are going to say they want to see their dad. Unless you have taped conversations, written proof or pictures most of this is not going to hold up in court. So, advice time, talk to your attorney, buy a recorder and tape ALL phone calls, this means not answering if they call on any cell phone, unless you have a record button. Get a journal start recording everything that you have issue with. Once you have a pattern established your attorney should be able to do something.

It is called "Child Protective Services". Document the incidents, get medical records, dates, etcetera. Then call up your local social services and report child neglect and endangerment. Good luck, it sounds terrible for you.

Is there any way to get your ex to talk to my ex? He never does anything fun with the kids. Do you think he'd take my kids to the fireworks store? They have their own money, and I'll pitch in for gas.

File a motion with the court requesting supervised visitation only ... just went through that myself!
