Football was created in America. For the first time ever there is a lot of talk of moving a team into Mexico or Canada to create the first international football team. (there is also a European football league). The reason it is not more popular in the rest of the world is because A. it is a really expensive sport and B. soccer is such a cheap sport in that all you need is a ball, and everyone else in that country already plays it.

1 - It is an expensive sport: the field, the equipment, etc.

2 - It is a complicated sport: much like learning a tough language, there are a lot of rules to take in at one time.

3 - The NFL hasn't done a very effective job of promoting the sport to young people in other countries, which would lead to more youth involvement and an eventual increase in appreciation for the game.

4 - The Metric system: It's hard to get excited when it's "1st down and 9.144" ;) Just kidding.

Perhaps there is something distinctly "American" about football. Such a characteristic would be hard to pinpoint or quantify, but that doesn't mean it's not there. Other parts of American culture, such as movies, TV shows, basketball and baseball, grew in popularity as the U.S. exported them in the post-WWI and WWII eras. But football hasn't stuck as well, for whatever reason.

However, there are signs of life for American football in the international community:

Football everywhere else in the world is soccer. We care about soccer. They care about soccer. Why isn't soccer as highly watched here as it is over there? Because we don't care about soccer. Why would we want something to watch if we weren't at least a little bit interested? The rest of the world doesn't care about North American football.

Football as we know it is played in Canada and in the NFL's European league, but the word football has different meanings in different parts of the world. It relates to soccer in most parts of the world as well as rugby but it's not necessarily the same as what we would call football.

Well they already have the european league. It would be a hassle for them to go to the us or for the us to go there. If they made 30 tems and had a big 62 team league that would be too many people. If they should have football outside the us they should make another league.

because Canada already has a football league and so does Europe and Mexico doesn't know how to play and it would be super hard to travel to Asia every other Sunday and Australia has rugby and everyone speaks a different language

Football just hasn't been globalized. Among the world is all soccer. They also believe that our sport is so rough.
