I'm trying to choose among some front row season tickets for a professional baseball game. I have two small children that I would bring with me. I won't be able to enjoy the game if I'm hovering over them every pitch. But I want to be close to the game but not behind the net if I can help it. Is it more dangerous to be in the section right next to the net (near the on-deck circle, looking straight ahead at the opposite foul line) or is it more dangerous to be right behind the dugouts. Is there any data on where you are most likely to get smacked by a ball at a game???

First and third base lines behind the dugouts. Watch out for line drives down third base from left handed hitters and down the first base line from right handed hitters and the ball will be slicing when it get's to you.

That depends on the park, the pitcher and the hitter.

If you want your children to be safe, and of course you want that, and you want to be that close to the action, then buy your tickets for behind the net.

Your children will care about and always remember the time that you spent with them, and your having taken them to a ball game, and you can only watch without that worry from behind the screen. It's a pretty good view, actually. I've sat behind the screen a couple of times, but a few rows up, and I've sat in the front row, down the line. Given the choice (which I no longer have, as I use a walker to get around, and wheelchair accessble seating is never that far down), I'll always take the seats behind the plate.

This isn't about you; this is about teaching your children to appreciate the game.

The baselines, from the dugout to half-way between base and foul pole. The wall around home plate, roughly between the dugouts, is typically protected by a net. So if you get home plate seats, you have no risk. Beyond half way out in the outfield, line drives lose enough momentum that they won't be very dangerous should they hit a fan.

Directly behind home plate would be the best to get them. If not there, on the third base side where fewer foul balls go.
If you want the best seats, get them right behind the home team dugout. bring a glove. you should have to worry about getting hit, if you just bring a glove or a hat or something. I think you'll be fine, no matter where you sit

The net really isn't that much of a distraction. And, you'll have the advantage of not worrying about the kids so much.

As far as foul balls go, the odds go down as you move down the foul lines. And, the higher the seat, the better in that sense.

I would say that the most dangerous places to sit would be the first 10 rows long the 1st and 3rd baselines. You get those screaming line drives down there.

The safest place for your kid would be directly behind home plate. They have those nets in place, so you should be safe there.

down the 1st and 3rd base lines are the most dangerous... behind the net is the best option but if you have to choose from your above listed options i would go with closer to the net.

i would say directly down the first and third baselines, because thats where players hit screamin line drives.
