..chavez, didn't take over RCTV because of its 'anti-chavez' rant or because it didn't agree with socialism (although that might have peeved him off)...It was simply because he didn't like the guy who ran RCTV who was against him before he took power (I got my info from a friend who is Venezuelan)
he is not 'squabbling' for power from an overwhelming 'populist opposition' …
this is what is actually happening: He has 80% support by the people in Venezuela, and although some protesters don't agree with RCTV close-down....the majority of the population doesn't really give a damn.
The protestors were tear gassed because they were getting roudy and distressing the already over-whelmed traffic system…
And when US news covered it they gathered around the reporters making it seem more of a big deal than it really is.
that is why New york times didn't showcase it perhaps...(mainly because its not much to talk about …)
this is what he wants --- he enjoys attention.

US news channels really show themselves as a bunch of morons when it comes to this issue.
I guess they all want to gang up on this guy just because they see him having anti-american stance so he’s 'anti-democratic' and ‘fighting 90% of the population who are being ‘horribly repressed’ by hismind control and have no freedom....when really…the guy was voted in democratically and still has over 70% approval rating.

look moron...I don't think going after a tv station is comparable to killing 6 million people with torture and trying to invade the whole planet.....maybe there are no similarities...or maybe, just maybe...comparing chavez to hitler is like saying you have absolutely no life and are a moron at the SAME TIME.
the two have nothing in common, and the latter has no incentive for a military force or torture to the scale of hitler..

well not that ashamed...there are many absurd things....I admit that I have done...comparing stuff....like...stuffed animals..
anyway.
but yea...chavez has no power to do any damage that even aproaches hitler...and he has no desire to kill...if he starts playing with oil...he can easily be put in line.
and...yea...as toys....
I am not saying no fear chavez though....he might have some tricks...but don't nazi him...thats just not pineapple.

Years ago, when I was a student in Carbondale there was a big drunken brawl on campus. The St. Louis media reported it as racial, the Chicago media as anti-war. Neither had a clue and were just making things up.
My uncle's store was robbed. The TV got his name, the store name, and the location wrong, but they had pictures!
I learned early to be skepical about media coverage.

You (and everyone that answered before me) are brain-washed - get a clue and look at the erosion of freedom that has taken place ever since this clown (Hugo) came into power. A majority of German citizens supported Adolf Hitler also but that did not make him a good guy. Look at history and learn to look at the patterns that are there and you'll see how wrong you are.

As everyone who does research to seek the truth knows, our own "government" has a huge influence on our media. Chavez has the courage to speak the truth, and since truth is the biggest threat to this administration, they will take every chance they can to discredit him. As Marley says: You can fool some of the people sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time;) And now you see the light!
