Try booting from your Windows CD and go to repair mode, then do a CHKDSK /R , I find most time this cure it, but it really depend on what your actual fault is.

A boot device is something that your computer checks when u boot up hence "boot device". It is possible that one of the boot devices is broken. It may be a harddrive or a cd drive or a floppy drive.
