I think you are on to something, in theory with just the right toast or possibly a bagel or two everything should levitate. I would not try this at home however as the other possibility is an uncontrolled reaction between cat and buttered toast which will result in both exploding.

The cat would stop an inch above the ground and begin spinning as both the butter and cat feet tried to hit the ground first.
This spinning would provide enough energy to actually send the cat through the space-time continuum.
