I think that people in a marriage should be honest, therefore there would be no need for a lie detector test.
but marriages in counseling are different, so they might need the lie detectors. I do believe it is a good idea, I'm not sure the liars of the couple would be too hot for it. But..it would help the marriage a great deal by getting everything out in the open.

No, they should not. The foundation of any good marriage is trust so having to rely on lie detectors to get the truth is pointless. In addition, lie detectors are not always accurate since they are based on physiological factors which can give false results when someone is on certain medications, under stress, etc. They would only cause more trouble than the original problem in the marriage.

Ideally, you'd be open and honest with your mate anyway...I'm sure this would work but the main problem would be getting people to agree to it. I could tell you where my husband is at all hours of the day, he's very honest (even when he's being a jerk and shady! lol), but i know he'd refuse to use one because it would question his integrity. Most counselors wouldn't agree to use them anyway because the idea of a safe and secure environment is kind of pushed aside by "proving" yourself with a lie detector.

I don't think it would make much difference in the long run...those things can be fooled, and those who intended to lie and couldn't get past the machine, just wouldn't agree to counseling.
Counseling can help people open up...own up to their choices...and even someone who lies can benefit from it, and may well eventually fess up and get things out in the open.

No, because, despite their widespread use, they cannot detect lies! Lie detector evidence is not acceptable in court; what makes you think it's of any use in marital counseling?

Forcing people to be honest negates the idea of trust in a relationship, and would only create more distrust and resentment.

Lie detectors are of no use thats why they are not allowed in court proceedings. They are not reliable.
