The pet you should get depends on what you can have in your house and can afford. You need to ask yourself, if you are looking for a large pet or a smaller one. How much space do I have? How much money can I put into it? If you are looking at a smaller one, I suggest that you look into something like a rabbit or a guinea pig. Rabbits are pretty easy to take care of and you can litter box train them. Guinea pigs are fairly easy as well, but are very fragile creatures. If you are looking at a larger animal a dog is a great pet. There are many dogs looking for homes in shelters.( if a dog is what you choose please adopt form a shelter) If you adopt a dog you could be saving its life. If you can afford and are allowed to get a dog I highly suggest you do so. Dogs do take a lot of time. Including vet visits, feeding, exercise, and cleaning after them. Some are easier than others. But dogs are also loving and caring animals. A cat would be a good pet too. So it all depends on the situation.
Just remember these questions:
~big or small?
~what is my expense limit to a pet?
~space available in home?
~a lot of time for a pet or a little?
good luck!
ps. any pet you are not that familiar with, I suggest you do I little research on them.

A gerbil! They are adorable, inquisitive little creatures. They don't bite by nature-they might nibble on your fingers if they think you might have something tasty. They are easily trained, and due to their curiousity it's more likely they will come to your hand rather than run away, especially if start with a young one. They are very clean-being desert animals originally, they don't drink much water = not much urine, so their cages don't smell as much as other rodents'. A litter change every week or two (depending on cage size) is more than enough. They do well in pairs, and they mate for life. I really enjoyed having gerbils, but can't now because I have 2 cats! *lol* Just another consideration, especially if you like small pets. :)

How about a bunny? They are great pets and you can train them to go in a litter box.
