I know we exhale CO2 but what percentage of O2 is in the exhalation? My friend said we cannot exhale 100% CO2. I have no idea.

The oxygen you exhaled is about 16-17% of the air exhaled, and the carbon dioxide is about 4%.

When you inhaled, the oxygen was about 20-21% of the air, and the carbon dioxide is negligible.

Most of the rest of the air is nitrogen.

Scubabob lined it very nicely, and that i had to further a pair of things: a million. The human physique isn't used to respiratory organic oxygen. over the years, even on the exterior, oxygen can grow to be an irritant on your lungs. on the exterior this could ensue in case you breathe organic oxygen for hours upon hours. maximum those which you notice on oxygen for scientific motives are in basic terms respiratory a mix of air and oxygen (very like Nitrox that scubabob defined). 2. some divers do use organic oxygen underwater. those are "technical divers" that have better education. The organic oxygen would be used at an extremely shallow intensity (shallower than 20 feet) throughout the time of the in basic terms precise decompression stops.

I'm guessing it depends on how long you hold in your breath, and what you are doing. In certain circumstances the human body requires more oxygen, such as excersice, running, sports, so in these circustances you asorb more oxygen out of one breath, resulting in you exhailing more carbon dioxide than if you were sleeping.

friend is correct

if you were to hold your breath, the CO2 count would go up
as compared to a quick breath

but if you TOTALLY used up the O2 in your lungs - your face would be red- RED - and your lungs would be screaming
at you

try it - it's a fun experiment - on the other hand - just take my word
