Reagan blinked when attempting to stand up to the owners of the Federal Reserve on behalf of the American people. He threatened them and they called his bluff by getting foreigners (who held loans on the United States debt) to call in their loans if he didn't back down.

But like so many other things about how the Federal Reserve is a privately owned corporation and how it affects each and every American every single day of their life this event was barely given any media coverage and most so-called historians overlook the significance of it entirely. But it would be a little crazy to expect the media to cover a story like this as much as they cover other stories since their very paychecks come from the owners of the Federal Reserve who control (by owning the majority shares of stock) all the major media outlets.

The other fact of the Reagan Presidency, that is a disgrace to the Republican Party in particular, was the ballooning of the national debt. So much for all that hype about conservatives being fiscally conservative. Of course this also helps the owners of the Federal Reserve make even more money. 98% profit on a dollar bill is good business. Not for the American people but for the owners of the Federal Reserve.

The real question you have to ask yourself is who, in American politics, seeks to abolish the privately owned central bank - The Federal Reserve, and restore monetary policy to "we the people." I can name one member of Congress - Ron Paul.

Iran-Contra. Worse than anything else up to and beyond - with maybe the exception of the reasons for the Iraq war. Reagan taking credit for freeing the hostages in Iran was wrong. Carter laid ALL the groundwork for their freedom, Reagan just was in the right place at the right time.
