it might have dust in it, where the side vent things are blow in it. thats whut was wrong with mine when it would not start.

So far, you are a bit light on the details. Please post a bit more info so people can help with debugging it.
- Does the laptop have power? Any LEDs on?
- Do you see a BIOS screen?
- Any error messages that we should know about?

Can you provide details about what is on the error page? What exactly do you mean by "about to go to the main screen"? Is this the BIOS info screen or a Microsoft screen?

If it's over a year old I would unfortunately say throw it away or give it to a tech shop for parts. Technology these days turns over every 6 months. If it's not working now you may end up spending more money to fix it than it would be to buy a new computer.

Is the battery charged? Have you tried starting it up with it plugged in an electrical outlet? So far it sounds like a battery problem, which commonly occurs with older laptops.

Find out what exactly it is then google search for the Manual and any other info about it. It could be the cmos battery
