Neither. He will get the Yankees back on track prior to that and this business about him being fired will settle down and disappear like it did other times when he was in this kind of situation.

He won't be fired. Im a huge Red Sox fan but i've always liked Torre. I think we all know deep down how this season is going to unfold. In a month or two the Yankees are going to come out of their funk and give the Red Sox a run for their money, I dont think they will catch the Sox because they have been very dominant during the first 2 months of the season. I think the Yankees will make the first round of the playoffs as a wildcard and loose in that round. I think Cashman is gone very soon though.

Sorry Reva P, what the Yankees need is a kick in the butt, something Joe Torre is not known for. A lot of players on that team are over-paid and dragging their fat a-s-s to the park without showing up. What the Yankees need is a manager that will not take that crap.
Joe Torre does not have that Personality. He's only good when all the players are doing what they are supposed to do and the puzzle fits.
The Yankees need somebody like Ozie Guillen or Lou Piniella that is not afraid to confront their player.

I am surprised he has lasted this long, but George is realigning the front office due to his son-in-law being kicked out of the picture. Torre will be gone by the end of June if the team continues to play so poorly. It is the old adage, you can't fire the whole team......but at this point there needs to be a shakeup to build toward 2008.

Unfortunately neither. He will finish out this year. He should have been moved to the GM spot 3 years ago and Cashman should have been canned.
Now Joe will "retire" at the end of this year and Cashman will get the door after the all star break.

After, as in MUCH after. The Yankees are a good team that has struggled with injuries early in the season. They will still be there as the pennant races heat up, and Torre will be there with them.

the extra powerful question is whilst the pink sox are nevertheless in first, and the yankees are nevertheless in final, will Torre get fired. considering the fact that this could be the situation for an exceedingly long term, it is going to finally take place.

So, Torre forgot how to manage? Is that your premise? A manager depends on having the players who can do the job. That's Cashman's job, not Torre's.

Much as I hate the Yankees, I've always liked, or at least respected, Torre. I hope he steps up and says he's done all he can, and its time for him to move on, before Steinbrenner has the chance to can him.

He will finish the season no matter what the Yankees do. Next year might be a different story if they don't make the play-offs this year.
