I know this is creepy.. but I was talking about it a few days ago and someone said it was a myth but some say that it is actaully possible. Freaks me out.. But I guess in the olden days.. when people moved caskets the bodies had really long hair and long nails. ... Hmm...

Hmm. So i see that there are many opinions.. About 50 / 50 of both answer.. haha! I understand where you are coming from but, isn't it that most people get all the fluids taken out of their body before they are embalmed. So why are they dehydrated? They have to blood...

And the hair is dead once it grows out of the head and nails are dead once they have grown out of the nails... So how could they possibly grow dead?

Yes, Dante dug up Lizzie Siddel's grave to retrieve a book of poetry and was shocked at how long her hair had grown.

No... It is a myth. The reality is that as the body decomposes it dehydrates. As a result of that dehydration the skin draws up making it appear the nails and hair have continued to grow.

No, this is an urban myth. The reason it started is that since the skin tends to shrink after death, as the fluids drain, it will retract from around the roots of hairs and nails, making it LOOK like they have grown.

yes hair and nails do grow when people die. An interesting thing about hair and nails is that they are just dead cells, so it naturally makes sense that when you die, and your cells on your skin die they will increase the size of your hair and nails. So basically this does hold true.

No they do no longer. Your epidermis retracts some so it sounds like it grows longer inspite of the shown fact that it does not. It does not make any experience why they could becuase your ineffective the isn't something living to offer the nail or hair.

I have also heard that hair and nails continue to grow after you are dead. Obviously they can't grow indefinitely. Otherwise your body would be rotten and decomposed but your hair and nails still growing lol.

no. the skin dries out and shrinks back a little. making it look like the nail and hair have grown. dead things can not grow, even a little.

Your hair and nails are dead cells. So yes they will still grow after you have passed away.

Yeas it's true that why you see finger nails coming out of graves. Tell you what pull one of your hair or hairs out and cut it at precise mm length and measure every few month?
