Depends on the material...

For example I frequently forget to close my Elmer's Glue... I just unscrew the top and then soak the top and "applicator" in hot water (since Elmer's is water-soluble).

Now if the material is like a caulk or liquid nails in a squeeze tube or gun-tube... I usually slowly screw in a longish wallboard screw and then use hand or pliers to pull the screw and blockage out.

Enamel paints in the little 1-4 oz jars... put them upside down, and "wick" in some thinner. Let that sit for 15 minutes, and unscrew... repeat if needed.

Krazy Glue.. sometimes acetone will work, but more often than not I have to throw the tube out !!

Hope some of these might have helped... Good Luck

I use a pair of pliers once it is stuck. But I heard a great tip lately to keep them from getting stuck in the first place... Try coating the tip or the inside of the cap with petroleum jelly after using the glue. (very lightly though or the cap will not remain shut)
