I just bought 2 1GB PC3200/400MHz DDR rams, and I install them and I turn on the computer and it just starts buzzing. What should I do?

Your question says you have a Dell Dimension 300, but I've never heard of that model. But, assuming you are using a Dell Dimension 3000, then you bought the correct memory, and you can use up to 2Gb in this system, so it SHOULD work. If the buzzing has a pattern to it, look up the codes here to tell you where the problem is:

Because Dell Dimension 300 has an old motherboard which does not accept 1GB PC3200/400MHz DDR rams.
the rams are too powerful for your computer.
Is it this computer you're talking about? http://www.lyberty.com/tech/sysspecs/dell_xps_d300.html
Edit: Dell Dimension 3000 does support PC3200 rams( http://compreviews.about.com/od/budgetdesk/gr/DellDimens3000.htm ).
maybe the rams are damaged. ask someone professional too check your computer.

What is the actual size of the original RAM? That might give you a clue as to why the reading is off. you can also go back to crucial and see what it says you have installed. Windows sometimes doesn't read RAM that is installed in laptops because it is not available to the OS.

maybe your motherboard doesn't support it (you should read book for your motherboard to see statistic and possibility for upgrades)
maybe you bought broken/damaged rams or you have made some mistakes with installation (it is best to visit service to they see what is the problem - you gave informations but not enough)

I guess you could have the wrong mamory, to get the right one go to http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/product_support/en/product_support_central?
type you "Service Tag", and then you would check what kind of hardware you PC work with.

Make sure the the motherboard supports that type of memory. And update your bios. and try to see if that fixes it.

Hi. That's a pretty old machine. I would be surprised (stunned actually) if it took anything much higher than PC133.
