Hi I would really like to fill all my tanks with water lettuce as I think it looks really pretty, I have 3 tanks and know all about the rate this plant grows, but I dont want to buy if my cichlids will eat it! I have one tank with malawi's, another with green terrors and another with community tropical but this one is only 50Litres, so i know i can put it in this one but its too small, I want it in my big tanks! Does anyone know the answer to my question Please??

The malawi's will certainly eat it and thank you for the salad. The terrors won't eat it much, just graze, but very well may tear it up quite a bit. I would try it in the tank with the terrors, maybe they will leave it alone enough for it to grow.

Water lettuce is a beautiful plant which is suitable for most aquariums. Because the roots are hairy and long, they will provide cover for fry and surface dwelling fish, while the leaves will discourage jumping. Like most floating plants, water lettuce is excellent for removing nitrates. Do not keep with plant eating fish as they will eat young plantlets - but larger plants will survive.

Quick answer is yes it will be eaten.

Forget about putting it in the fish tanks.

Just get a large fish tank - put the water in but no fish, then you can watch the water lettuce grow in this tank when it gets overgrown you can harvest some and put in with the fish for it to be eaten.

contained in the long distance previous somebody informed me that lettuce includes a toxin this is the bitter style, its no longer suitable for fish or reptiles as they have a diverse digestive gadget to mammals. subsequent ones Meal worms, those have been standard to burrow out of animals that have digested them which incorporates reptiles, as with maximum larval varieties they do no longer seem to be straightforward to drown and returned i could be slightly careful of giving them on your fish. Wax worms as a handle those could be suitable although, they have a severe fat content cloth and should no longer be used as a staple eating ordinary. you are able to desire to feed intestine loaded locusts he'd probably pounce on them, having fed them you will get an volume of vegetable content cloth into him. however the flakes as a staple would be sufficient as its a balanced nutrition.
