This is for older people entirely: do you agree that, when a younger person is disrespectful or an out-and-out jerk in a post here, we should not respond at all? Leave 'em waiting, let 'em rot. All such human bottom feeders want is to get a rise out of us.

Yes, for all they want is for you to post a ranting screed on how awful they are.

I'm 37 years old, is that an "older people" yet? I agree there are a lot of people here in all the categories that just post questions to get a rise out of people. Such people are called "trolls", and they should be ignored entirely.

You maybe right in regards to getting a rise out of us but remember: Respect is earned by actions and words and a little education thrown into the mix doesn't hurt either.
So I reply to them. Maybe a bit too sternly but I reply none the less, to educated them. And yes! To make them look a bit like a fool for posting such trashy comments.
They will learn in their own time and place and maybe even reflect back on some of the dumb things they said or did-I know I have reflected back many times and hopefully learned from my own mistakes. Have any in your closet? Bet you do.
Think what you will but say and do your best-that help to sleep at night.

Agree with you. Think I made a mistake in answering the person who was using an emblem similar to the Masonic Emblem here in seniors and another person thought it was Masonic. I know it was NOT and told him if I knew who he was I would " challenge " him. but when a person uses such an emblem and is rude I get a little upset for this is how reputations are hurt.

Ignore them. You will walk into their trap by responding. They want to see old people get riled and give a rasping retort. That fits into their stereotype of an elderly person - short tempered and acerbic.

Depends on the situation, and the parties involved. Some older people can do it all with a look, others couldn't do it if their lives depended on it. If you can turn the tables on them, good for you!!!

I disagree with most of what is said here.

Respond sharply, with good spelling and grammar, and have the last word.

Prove that we are intelligent, not losing our tempers.

But don't let them get away with it, except when it is an obvious stupid troll. Then ignore.

You know, it really all depends on how I feel that day! Sometimes I can walk over them & go about my business, but, sometimes it just feels so damned good to give them a dose of reality & tell them how I feel about their ignorance!
