You are a soul atman on your cosmic journey. To remove the impurities within... you are manifesting life forms again and again. After crossing 7.3 million manifestations... you have reached the stage of human beings. In the human form alone there are 1.1 million manifestations. In the human form we have an earthly journey of 12.1 million years to gain enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha).
The end goal of every human being is reaching the end of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation when human beings finally gain enlightenment and salvation. It is worth remembering that in 7.3 million manifestations you lived... you have already manifested the forms of insects, plants and animals.
Not from heaven or hell shall you gain release from the cycle of birth and death. Only as a human being one attains the stage of enlightenment and finally salvation. Reaching the end of cosmic life is the real crux of life. You shall continue to manifest human form again and again until the dross within you (as a soul atman) reduces to zero. It is only then you shall regain your original pure pristine form.
As a human being if you desire to know yourself... you need to travel the spiritual path. It is only spirituality that gives meaning to inner life. Bhagavad Gita... the most sacred scriptures available on Mother Earth... given to mankind by Lord Krishna in Mahabharata spells out everything that is knowable in the Cosmos. The knower of Bhagavad Gita finally becomes the knower of all... one ultimately gains enlightenment!
The foremost requisite for traveling the spiritual path is the path of absolute truthfulness. Only then you shall be able to hear the sweet small inner voice of your real self as soul atman within. The voice of our soul atman always guides us on the right path. Knowing the fact that every soul atman is the Governor of the body... the goal of the journey always belongs to our soul atman.
If we follow the goal of life prompted by our soul atman within... all queries within you would come to rest. You would ultimately realize what you were born for! Every single soul atman in the Cosmos is independent of each other. Every soul atman has its independent goal! We only need to follow the path of absolute truthfulness and know this goal. Having fixed the goal... the journey is half complete!
Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed... all traveled this path and finally became man gods. Every human being at the end of cosmic life would reach the level of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed. There is no escape from the cosmic life cycle! Better we follow the dictates of our soul atman and complete the journey early! More on Inner Self - http://www.godrealized.com/inner_self.html

First of all, you're "something interesting" simply because you can put that though into words. I hope I can put my response into a meaningful format, as well...
Now, as far as what you know about yourself or anything:
It's been demonstrated logically that you can't REALLY know about anything, because everything you can experience comes to you through your nervous system (senses), and your senses don't necessarily perceive reality. It's certain that there is much more out there that you're NOT perceiving, and we know that there are other species in nature that DO perceive these things. So basically, you can't be sure that anything you know is objectively true.
Fortunately, it doesn't have to be. It just has to be consistent within the framework of your experience and your worldview.
Given that you can't know anything objectively, it follows that your world-view can't be too strict. You have to allow for change, and take into account the fact that everything is filtered through your perception. Your perception can vary depending on your mood -- for example, when you're angry, it seems like everyone is trying to aggrivate you; when you're sad, it seems like there's nothing in the world that can make you happy. So how you feel at the time will color your experience.
Thus, what's important is how you feel. Fortunately, how you feel is totally up to you. You have a constant "feedback" system in place, because you're the person doing the feeling. So you should pursue things that make you happy, and by doing so, you will build your interest in the things that work for you.
It's not possible to know the outcome up front. All you can do is assess your experience, then choose your next action. The trick is to "do only that which is right," or in other words "do what you will." This means assessing your true desires, based on your perception and feelings, and acting in accordance with that. It's tricky because we often judge ourselves based on "outside factors," like how we think other people will judge us or react. In reality, we can't know any of those things, because all we can know is what we perceive, and that's all inside us as individuals.

You might start off by keeping a diary of your daily
experiences. Read over your diary from time to time
and see if you notice any trends. The trends that you
notice are hints into your interests. Explore your
interests in greater depth and repeat the process.

You are YOU
and you can change from day to day, but keeps on being YOU
and you may feel confused from time to time, but keeps on being YOU
It is well known its hard to get to know someone, but we keep thinking someone means "someone else"... someone is YOU too... and you should do the same to get to know YOU as you would someone else... pay attention to your self, be interested in your self, and try to find out who you are.
The good and bad thing about getting to know you is that it is not necessarily the end, it can be the beginning. You can compare who you are with the person you thought to were or the one you would like to be, and you can transform your self into that person... but you will still be you, because YOU can change.

Your only option is you are going to have to go on an independent journey to find out, and that journey is life. You are going to have to try new things, and do things that you wouldn't normally do. By testing and exploring your world, you'll know what you can't or won't morally do or enjoy based on what you did or tried to do. So start searching.....NOW!!!

We have problems defining self too.
Define things by what they are not. You are not me. Define things by grouping them with similar things. Your are an avatar on yahoo, like the other avatars here. Define things by breaking them into parts and defining each part, and there relationships with the other parts, lengthy process here, skips through most of the pages defining rolls and worries about it after the doing. Our actions define us most of all

Hey, you realised who you are now so it does'nt take much to know WHO you really are then. Or does it? That depends on YOU again.

have you try doing what you really love to do? it is said that what we do is what makes us. i.e. writers become writers because they write, not because they do other things but writing.

Do you know God?
If not then try to discover.
His discovery would lead you to discover yourself.
