USB stands for Universal Serial Bus.

A USB wireless adapter is an external wireless adapter that fits into your USB slot.

A wireless adapter gets your internet connection... wirelessly... instead of using a network cable.

it plugs in via usb ( usually on the front and back of computers. a rectangular shape) versus having to take the side panel off and installing a PCI card

its usually okay to get a USB one as long as you are in close proximity to the wireless router, otherwise, get the PCI ones.
