I see a lot of hateful people in Yahoo Answers Politics. Has your hate ever made someone stop and say, "You know what? You're right. You've changed my mind."?

If not... don't you think that rational discourse is a better way to get your point across than hateful, nasty rhetoric?

Great question. I've been guilty at times - it's certainly easier to rush to judgment than to think through your point of view and present an intelligent counterpoint.

I know what you mean. You are pregnant and want people to treat you special and they should. You have a beautiful baby girl growing inside you. She will love you so much once she is born. She will need and want you more than anyone even will. You will have each other soon and others will be jealous of that relationship....let them. Once she is here your parents will be so happy. Maybe your family is just uncomfortable with you not being married and having her but they should be proud that you did not have an abortion. I am proud of you for not going through with it and wanting to keep her. There is nothing you can do about how others feel but be happy for yourself and your baby. Be prepared.... taking care of a baby is alot of work. They always need something just be patient with her. Do you have any names picked out...that is so much fun, trying to find a beautiful name for a girl, there are so many to pick from........................ maybe ask your mom what names she likes, get her alittle involved that way....it could help some. Maybe use your mothers name for a middle name?????????? Good Luck!!!!

of course not!
who wants to agree with a jerk??
But so many people seem to think I want to hear them rant on and on about how much of a "hippie liberal, mentally diseased, crazy, crack-pot, idiot, anti-war lunatic" I am when in all honesty the only thing there that is true is "anti-war"!!
And whats wrong with that.
And I'll admit that I have been guilty with calling some names myself, but I would also admit it was wrong and not try to defend myself by calling more names.
I just wish more people would realize this and try to keep more peace, hate is never the answer!!!!

I've honestly had my mind changed on a few issues as a result of this forum, but it was certainly not by those who bash or try to shove things down my throat. It was caused by those who ask reasonable and intelligent questions that allowed me to think and do my own research.

The hate mongers will never get anywhere with me.

Awesome question and to the point. Unfortunately many of the questions you see here are not intended to change someones point of view. They're intended to simply hammer those with an opposing POV.

No, I haven't.

If your objective is sincerely to change someone's mind, you can't resort to insults or personal jabs. The second you negatively involve someone's ego, they will do anything to avoid agreeing with you, because by implication agreeing with you means admitting they were stupid. No one wants to do that.

Mature debate means sticking to the topic, being patient, not getting angry, and avoiding any openings to attack someone's character or ego.

Actually it did happen once. Some posters got on here with some Hillary facts that were in fact true and a couple posters said they changed their mind about here. I don't like all the bashing because I know our soldiers read this stuff and it's a sure thing that Al Quida is.

but they aren't trying to get a point across, their goal as trolls is to get as many people to reply as possible, many of them don't even really believe what they are saying, it's just a vehicle to get people to reply

NO.... And that's why I wonder why you keep emailing me all this hate filled stuff? And doing nothing more than being a hypocrite with this question.
