I know that the gender of the baby generally depends on the genetics of the paternal side, but might the things you consume or other variables affect what gender the baby is?

Are you serious?? No, nothing determines the baby's sex except the father's sperm. Nothing.

OOooo good question...in most vertebrate animals, gender is decided at conception.

However, there are several books that do suggest that the male sperm can not tolerate acidic body fluids or higher body temperatures. And a higher body temperature, etc., at conception will cause you to more likely conceive a girl. Hence lower body temp, will conceive a boy. And your question regarding what you consume...well, some foods will give your body a more acidic base and some will do the opposite...so if you haven't conceived yet, some experts suggest you could determine if the X chromosome or Y chromosome sperm will survive to fertilize the egg.

This theory is still up for debate in the medical community, but there are books on it.

But being that you are human, once you conceive, you can not change the sex of the child.

The father chooses the gender..indirectly. Its ALL based on chromosomes. A womens eggs are always the chromosome X. The males sperm is either X or Y. If you get an Xx combo you will get a girl. If you get an Xy combo, you will have a boy. There is nothing you can do after conception to determine what gender you want it to be.

Absolutely not. The sex of the child is determined the *instant* the sperm meets and fertilizes the egg. You can eat all the strawberries in the world, and you're not guaranteed to have a girl. ;)

Studies have shown, however, that girls are more likely to be conceived during the latter phase of your ovulation. For instance, if you ovulate from the 15th to the 19th of the month (with the 17th being your most fertile day), having sex on th 17th or after will give you a greater chance of having a girl. Having sex right before (or during the early stages) of your ovulation gives you a greater chance of conceiving a boy. Of course it's not a guarantee, but studies have shown this to be true in many cases.

I conceived both my kids during the early phase of ovulation, and I have two boys, so I guess it was true in my case. :)

Unfortunatly, no. There isn't anything that you can do AFTER you are pregnant to affect the gender of your baby. Before conception though, there are things that a man can do to produce sperm that either creates a male or female child. Stress, for example. A man who is really stressed will usually produce a GIRL. There is alot of things that you can read about, or he can read about for this. Good Luck, and I hope that you get the child you want. Of course, male or female, I'm sure you will love it all the same.

Not true. There are a couple of things that can influence the gender of a baby -- (1) The normal mixture of x & y sperm in the male's "output" and (2) the time of month that you conceive. The time of month is relevant because the "Y" sperm swim faster but don't live as long as the "X" sperm.

No hun. After the egg is fertilized, the gender is already determined. Nothing you do after the fact can change it. The man's sperm carries either the X or the Y chromosome.

No, the gender is decided by the DNA contained in the sperm that fertilizes the egg at conception.

No, the sperm decides the gender at conception. There are two types of sperm "x" which carry the female "gene" and the "y" sperm which carry the male "gene." Whichever sperm fertilizes the egg first decides the gender.

NOPE...it is predetermined before they even join together. It all depends on whether your husbands sperm that "won" carried the x or y chromosome. All of your eggs are a X and his sperm are X or Y when they join you get XX girl or XY boy. Your baby was what it was from the moment they joined. Now I was reading that physically their genitals appear the same until the form at a certain point...but I dunno about all that. =) good luck!

no because as soon as the sperm hits the egg the gender has already been determined. You cannot change the sex of the baby once the baby has already started to be created.
