I am looking to build a pc. In your opinion what is the best gaming motherboard available?

My preference is to have a motherboard that is very very fast... i am going with 8800 Ultras and would like to use a Ageia PhysX™ processor as well.

Any suggestions would definately be helpful.

I was looking at:

ASUS P5N32-E SLI or the Striker Extreme however if you have any better suggestions... let me know

I am likely going with QUAD2X4096-8500C5DF Corsair Dominator memory.

I also already have a 1000watt power supply as well.

I will likely being going with a 64 bit operating system as well. Not 100% sure if i am going to stick with XP pro or go with Vista version yet...

The Physics card will primarily be used for when playing a game... ie City of Heroes / Villans... but I figure other games will end up using it in the end as well...

680i i the current darling mb. Beware the agea is not vista compatible yet and very few games support it. I'd wait for a few months on that item, because more competition will bring prices don while you wait for the driver. Just add it later. Make sure you have DX10 vid cards, the 8800's are very good but remember, they are power hogs. Make sure you have a good power supply. 500W absolute minimum 650 or more is better. You also need adequate cooling. And good ramm. Alot of people like raptors (low read/write/seek AN ultra high mtbf) in raid 0 but I do not believe raid 0 is really an advantage in the REALworld. I'd get a core2 duo. Most software will not utilize quad core for at least a year. Good luck, have fun. If you run into a snag, just post us. I'd check out Toms hardware

The Asus is great but why the PhysX? Not many games can take advantage of it. If you are running SLI then you won't need it. Get some Corsair XMS or Dominator RAM. An SLI certified PSU as those cards are power hungary. A Stacker 830 would be a great case.

I just built a system for a client with this 650i board from MSI - very nice.

Next step up is the 680i series:

Get the 680i series if you plan on SLI and a PhysX card since it has 4 PCI-e x16 slots on it.

The ASUS board is nice too, but I happen to like the MSI a bit better.

pass to the community sell off/recycling center and detect a case, PSU, keyboard and video demonstrate. you could replace those later once you have have been given the money, yet you're already a million/2 way there for £20 and you could now spend extra on the bits that actual remember - mobo, processor, mem, photos and HDD
