I am in a book club and I get to choose the books for the group to vote on to read soon. I would like to go to this art gallery hopping event my city has and read an art themed book to go along with it. Do you know of any good fiction books that have an art theme? Even something like "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" or something along that line. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

A really wonderful book that I read that is art-themed is "A Portrait of Myself" by Winifred Madison. The book is about a young woman who loves to draw and paint, but thanks to little support from family and others has doubts about her talent. I highly recommend it. Another book with a similar theme is "Cages of Glass, Flowers of Time" by Charlotte Culin.

Good luck and happy reading! :-)

There's "The Lost Painting: The Quest for a Caravaggio Masterpiece" by Jonathan Harr. It's a fictionalized true story--really delves into what it's like to be an art historian. On a much lighter note, Ian Pears
has written six or seven mystery books with an art theme.

My romantic suspense series, featuring a museum security expert and an FBI agent, is art-themed. In a movie analogy, you might characterize the series as Entrapment meets The Thomas Crown Affair, minus foul language or nudity. Reluctant Burglar came out last September. Reluctant Runaway just released in March. The art theme in Burglar is the European masters. In Runaway, it's American and Native American artists. The third in the series, Reluctant Smuggler, releases in January, and the art theme is Hispanic art. The books are available in bookstores, Amazon, and other on-line outlets. If you're interested, I'd be happy to send you a copy of the debut novel, Reluctant Burglar, for a test-read to see if it fits your criteria.

"The Girl With A Pearl Earring" is a great choice. So are two more of Tracy Chevalier's novels, "The Lady and the Unicorn" or "Burning Bright." Her works are very entertaining, enjoyable stories as well as educational.
Also as another answerer suggested "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Balliet as well as her "The Wright 3" and Arturo Perez-Reverte's "The Flanders Panel" are great reads.

Right off the top of my head, CHASING VERMEER by Blue Balliett ... another one is THE FLANDERS PANEL by Arturo Perez-Reverte. Both of these are mysteries centered around a given painting, and both are worth reading.
