I don't know if this is true, but I heard an old story about a gypsy boy that stole the nails that the Romans were going to use to crucify Jesus. As a reward for this attempt to prevent His suffering, God allows gypsies to steal.

For all of you politically correct types. I have been to Rome, and the local police will contact you and tell you to secure your purses and wallets because the gypsies have been on a stealing spree. If the police in Italy issue public warnings on the matter, I doubt that it is an ignorant American stereotype. Different cultures permit different behaviors. Rape and kidnapping is acceptable for some cultures. Fortunately, gypsies prefer to steal and beg.

Yes, my mother lived in Europe and they would come and camp out at night near my mother's home and steal chickens and livestock. They would steal children for slavery, selling or prostitution. This was on a farm.

They didn't adhere to the rules generally, because I believe they have their own system, and yes they could trick you too. I do not speak of all gypsies but the ones that traveled and took from her home. This is what she had told me.

I am sure today is different, but they do exist.

In SOME places (like here, in Chile) there are SOME Gypsies, that steal or cheat, but that doesn't mean that they all act the same way. It's just like with any other subculture.

my mouth dropped when I read this. How can you judge an entire race for the actions of a few? Generalizations like this hurt people. People stereotype my race all the time and unless it is the most profound argument ever, I really do not care. Yet, this is a group of people that are fighting to be recognized, fighting in ways that my own race has had to fight. For the life of me, I cannot understand how anyone can intentionally attempt to hurt another one of Gods people.

I have never been stolen from by a Gypsy. Actually, I have a quite accomplished Romani that works beside me day in and day out. If anything, I steal his pens and post its all day long.

not cool. This is offensive to the people of Roma. They were persecuted in WW2 as much as, if not more than, the jewish.

Even before WW2 thgey were persecuted indiscriminantly the way an african american would be if caught in the south pre-1950. Haven't you read the hunchback of Notre Dame or seent he movie (disney or otherwise)

The gypsies did not get compensation for WW2 and still don't.

It is amazing to me that an entire race of people can still be treated as if they are mythological creatures. They are not unicorns, They are the Romany people and apparently the only ethnic group left on Earth that it is acceptable to pre-judge.
