Go to control panel, power. You should have two profiles one for on battery and one for ac adapter. Widows is doing this to protect your battery, althogh two minutes would drive me crazy too. Your battery might be starting to go and windows is sleeping earlier to protect you. On ac I usually have mine set for 30 and on battery 15.
Expect a battery to last just slightly more than a year if not used responsibly, and several years if well treated.

Start Menu > Control Panel > Power Options
The first tab should be Power Schemes, where you can change your standby settings.
