won't bring you to the desktop...it just keeps restarting, and restarting, and restarting. I am sure it's infected but I want to know if all my pictures and music are as good as gone? Does anyone know?

Depends on how far the computer is getting before it restarts. If you are seeing the Windows logo before it restarts, then it is a corrupt file in Windows itself. All of your information is probably still there, it is just not starting Windows.

You can attempt to start Windows in Safe Mode (turn on the PC and press the F8 repeatedly until you get a Safe Mode option screen). If you can get in that way, then back up whatever you need to CD, DVD, flsh drive, USB drive, etc.

If not, you can take the hard drive out of your computer and put it into a different computer as a second hard drive. That way it does not have to run Windows. The first hard drive will do that. But you should be able to see it as a second hard drive and back up anything you want from it.

If the PC is not even getting to the Windows logo, you have a major hardware problem and need to have it looked at by a pro.

Hope that helps....

I had a virus on my computer that acted like that. The computer is continuously rebooting. You should open it on safe mode - f8 and than open my computer properties and prevent it from rebooting. Open help files to see how its done. Then run your antivirus. Symantec has the indications on how to remove the virus. I dont remember its name but after you are able to keep the computer from rebooting, you'll be able to update the antivirus and it will identify it. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Try going into Safe Mode when it's switching on.

Press F8 really fast normally. Then select "Safe mode with networking" - Fix the problem there, or backup your music.

could be a hardware failure (example: motherboard or graphic card.) and all your pics are safe cos theyre in the hard disk. just remove it and plug it into another working pc.
