What is a good acting agency in Chicago?

I need to break into the business, but I know that in order to do that I need a good agent. Anyone know of Chicago talent agents with good reputations?

You can include advice about how to break into the business. I've been acting for six years in school theater. I'm attractive (it helps with getting an acting job.) and need good representation.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is and Chicago has it's fair share. All of the agents on this particular list had to pass the 'smell test' with SAG.

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

As for advice, agents are always looking for a fresh face. They want someone they think will make them money and lots of it. You have to walk in looking like the face they've been missing in their repetoire of a hundred actors... but you also have to be normal and friendly. Don't overdo it and don't be cocky either. They want confidence for sure, but too much and they'll think you're arrogant. They want to know that this is absolutely your passion and that you will give it your all. They want to know that if they tell you to be somewhere at 10:30am you will be there on time (or early). They also want to know that you actually have talent... so have the chops to back it up. Are you taking classes and workshops? Are you out auditioning and performing every chance you get? Doing theatre is a good way to stay active, but if TV and Film is what you want you need classes that reflect that goal.
