if you have a good filter and no heater, yes, for a short period of time hey can be kept together. however, goldfish produce too much waste for bettas to handle. also, bettas should be kept in a heated aquarium and goldfish are cold water fish.
if the aquarium is heated, no. goldfish shouldn't be kept in a heated aquarium.

You might be able to get away with it but it's not ideal. I did this several years ago but the goldfish was larger than the betta. WIth your goldfish being smaller than the betta you may have different results. The length of the goldfish's fins may play a part, too... bettas tend to attack fish with long flowing fins.
Best to put him in another tank. Make sure the tank is at least 10 gallons, but 20 would be better. Goldfish need a lot of space, and for best results they should be kept with a friend... another goldfish. They need a bare minimum of 10 gallons apiece of water, but I usually recommend 20 gallons per goldfish.

I have no idea where most of these people get their info from but they are wrong. I will have to agree with Kylie on this one. Goldfish are cold water fish, Betta's are tropical fish. Betta's need a heater and Goldfish need much cooler water. NO most Betta's will not attack other species of fish. They mainly fight with other male Betta's! How long will it be until you get another tank? Like tomorrow? If so then yes..but get a new one ASAP! The goldfish puts out too much waste to keep them together long term.

There should be no problem since the betta and the goldfish are usually in unheated containers. and thus similiar water temps. You may find that in such a large tank the betta doesn't bother with the goldfish and you may decide to leave them altogether. But you can't have betta with other tropical fish. Do you have plants and hiding places in your tank. If you put the goldfish in watch the betta. If you have to take the goldfish out have some water from the tank in a bowl so the goldfish doesn't have to go thru a waterchange and temp change again.my ebay store www.2008ebooksplus.com

I would not because the betta will attack the goldfish. Betta's like to be the only fish. Its just the same as if you place the tank in front of a mirror the betta will go nuts trying to get himself in the mirror and ending up getting so stressed and killing himself. So if you want to keep the goldfish place him in his own tank.

I don't think it's the best thing. There is ammonia in the goldfish's urine, and that's really hard on the beta. Also, I've heard that sometimes when goldfishes outgrow the betas, they'll eat them!

no. the goldfish, who will grow surprisingly fast, is more likely to pick on the betta, not the other way round, and once that goldfish is big enough, could quite easily inhale a betta too.
