Florence is not in the book. It is FLORIN and GUILDER. I think they are made-up countries, I JUST WANT TO KNOW AN APPROXIMATE DATE!!!!

I don't think there was much of a timeline, cause he's say "It was before ____ but after ___ " right? And it would totally not make sence for real. I think there is no year, it's fiction, the year didnt matter.

Well imdb isn't going to help with the BOOK but it will with the MOVIE. Well it is a fake place like the second person said but if it were real it'd be in medival ages in a fictional setting. Also to the first person, even if it were a fiction book it'd still have a setting. Like the Pendragon series, nothing in real life is going to happen there (like a dude and his family wiped away from the earth) yet their would still be a time period. Hello-duh.

well, the countries of florence and guilder were at war from 1476 - 1500 so historically, it has to have happened before that, since visisni was attempting to begin a war. if the war had already begun, or had concluded, then it would make no sense for him to want this.

Florence is not a country, it is a city, and a guilder is a coin. Florence was, however, under attack by the French and by the pope during this time period.

It's a completely fictitious story that takes place in a completely fictitious place. Even if someone were to tell you a year, it would have absolutely no relationship to the real world.
