the baby will take what he/she needs from you even if you are not eating. it is better to eat right and small amounts more often. it will help you not gain as much weight too. i've only gained 12 lbs this pregancy. :) good luck and eat good for that baby

Several things contribute to a large baby. Number one is already being overweight or obese. Number two is eating too many carbohydrates including bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. Number three is having type 2 diabetes. Number four is eating a lot of dairy (Moms from dairy farms traditionally had the largest babies even if they themselves were thin). Finally, gaining a lot of weight during pregnancy if you were normal weight in the first place. These are all the main ones.

All that said, you can still have a small baby if you have it prematurely or there are placental problems. You can have a normal sized baby with all of these as well.

In the 'old days' women were told not to gain more than 15 pounds during pregnancy. Then it changed to 25 pounds. I can't help but wonder, given the enormous number of 9 and 10 pounder babies today, if that was very wise change.

Doubt it... I unfortunately gained about 75 pounds with my first pregnancy, and my daughter was 7 pounds 13 ounces... this go around (I am 29 1/2 weeks pregnant) and I have only gained around15 pounds so far... So I guess I will find out in a 2 months or so the weight difference between the two... I refused to gain that much weight again!!!!

As long as you eat healthy you should have a healthy birth weight baby! Good luck.

No. Women who gain 40 pounds and women who gain 100 pounds during pregnancy can give birth to babies weighing the same. The one gaining 40 ponds can even give birth to a baby weighing more than the one the woman who gained 100 pounds has.

BTW No woman who is pregnant is ever "eating for two". They are eating for one and that other little bit of a person.

No, the more you eat, the bigger mommy will be. The baby will grow as he/she grows. Women with diabetes tend toward bigger babies but fat women without diabetes have normal sized babies. Just eat healthy, eating more or less effects your health, the baby takes what it needs first so how much you eat will have little effect.

The more you eat while pregnant, the more weight you will gain! It shouldn't have an effect on the weight of your baby. Otherwise, pregnant women wouldn't be eating for fear of a large baby.

Not unless you are overeating. Your baby will gain normally from what you eat, and your body stores babies dont gain alot of weight from the parents until the last month and a half of the pregnancy then is when he/she will gain more weight if u are majorly over eating while in that stage of pregnancy!

Not necessarily.. but the bigger you will be. This is my first pregnancy and I am gaining more weight that my dr wanted me to, but according to him my baby is approximately that the correct weight for 35 weeks... I started this pregnancy off at around 132 lbs and now up to almost 170....

not necessarily. There are many factors that play into how big the baby will be. My best friend ate all the time and her baby only came in at 6lbs 7 oz. It is best not to deprive or starve yourself because you're afraid of having a big baby. If you're hungry - eat (but eat healthy!)

Nope! That is the biggest misconception women have. A women is only suppose to gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy. Anything more than that, and you are asking for trouble. If you gained 60 pounds during a pregnancy, does that mean your baby will be 60 pounds at birth??? I don't think so.
