Why is not finding your apartment lease going to get you penalized. You need to add more info.

Have you damaged or otherwise done something that would violate your lease? You should be able to get a copy of the one you signed (i.e. with your signature on it) from your landlord. I've never heard of a lease with a penalty for losing it.

You would have to have one heck of a brutal landlord to penalize you for losing your lease.

You won't really need it unless you get into a dispute and want to review certain parts of it. The landlord should be able to provide you with a copy. Most are standard, so its unlikely you have alot of riders attached to it.

Ask your landlord for a copy of your lease. Doubtless, he has it on file in your tenant file. You will certainly know that it is yours from your signature.
