my doc told me I could "get my hair done" if I wanted to. I didn't ask what that meant, since I don't color or perm or anything like that.
I would assume, however, that it means using chemicals, so hair dye would be okay.
check with your doc.

Books and articles I've read suggest that you limit the amount of color applications on your hair during pregnancy because of the chemicals. My OB told me I could continue to color my hair. I did with my last pregnancy 2 years ago and have done it throughout this one as well. I waited until I was almost through my first trimester so I could avoid the chemicals during the early stages of pregnancy, which is highly recommended. I have gray as well because I'm in my late 30's, so along with that and the fact that my hair grows really fast during pregnancy, I have to color my roots often. There isn't as many chemicals when putting dark color on because not as much developer is used. It's when you are trying to lighten dark hair that uses more chemicals because you have to use a higher volume of developer to lift the natural color out. I don't know about vegetable based hair colors. Gray is stubborn to cover, so I can't imagine them working well. I can't even get semi permanent colors to cover grays. Check with a beauty supply store, like Sally Beauty. Good luck.

It's ok to dye your hair when you are pregnant. Just make sure that you are in a well ventilated area. People used to worry about it a long time ago but the products have improved and are totally safe now. So go for it!

My friends doctor told her to wait till the second trimester to use hair dye. Also I think the semi perm stuff is not as bad but thats just my guess.

Henna is safe. Actually, a lot of hair color is safe as long as it's deposit-only (as opposed to lift-deposit, which lightens, then deposits color). I would get it professionally done, call around to different salons and ask what they can do. If it's a no-go with them, invest in a cute hat.

My doctor said that there has been no research to suggest that hair dye harms the baby. However it is recommemded to use vegetable dye just in case.

You can still color your hair if you are pregnant, just try to open up as many windows as you can to try to make sure you don't breath in a bunch of the chemicals.

I have heard either vegetable oil based hair dye or hair dye without ammonia. Good luck though... :)

I say go for it and get your hair dyed. Today's hair dyes don't contain any chemicals that can hurt the baby like they did years ago. Good luck.

You can use any hair dye you want. The concerns over hair dye is for operators, not clients.
