I am 38 weeks pregnant am very anxious! I have been dilated to 2cm for about a week and a half now and tried drinking castor oil last week after i went into pre-labor. It didn't do anything, I felt a little sick to my stomach but other than that, no effects (maybe I didn't take enough?) I am thinking about trying it again since I am now a week further, anyone have any idea if it might work this time or exactly how much I am supposed to take?

I would not try the castor oil again, and esp. not in a larger dose. It will most likely make you sick again or give you the runs.

Your baby will come when ready. Please don't be anxious! Just let nature take it's course. Every day the baby stays in your womb, is a day that it is growing stronger.

Try to be patient, mama - there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Castor oil has not been proved to work. All it can do is make you poop a lot and get stomach cramps. There is also the risk of making the baby have a bowel movment inside the womb, which can at times be harmful. I've read that nipple stimulation is the most effective way to start contractions, but it should be done without medical supervision because they can come really strong and really quickly. Just try old fashioned waslking or having sex with the hubby. Whats the rush? You still have 2 weeks to go. Enjoy your freedom and free time while you can. Good luck!

You thought you had a little tummy ache with your first dose? Take a larger dose and see what happens. All that will come of you drinking castor oil is diarrhea. You could also possibly cause your baby to have a bowel movement in utero, which is dangerous. Just wait it out hun. I went a month at 2 cms. Your baby will come when its ready. People that have "success" with self induction have babies that were ready to come anyway. Best of luck.

No, it's not suggested that you do that. It will make you very sick. Your body will go into labor when the baby's ready. When you get pregnant, you do it knowing that you are signing up for 38-42 weeks of being pregnant. I know it's uncomfortable at the end, I've been there, but that's just part of it. It will be over soon.

Castor Oil only gives you diarrhea, which may or may not bring on labor...but do you really want diarrhea while giving birth?
Unless your doctor has told you to try to start your labor I suggest you wait it out, there is a reason s/he hasn't come out yet, give it time.

It'll just give you the runs, which will dehydrate you. being dehydrated SUCKS during labor. Don't take it again...you shouldn't have taken it to begin with.
Go for a walk, and have sex. Those are the two tried and true methods.
Just relax. Be patient--patience is a virtue.

Please do not rush your baby. He/She will come on his/her own time. Also, Castor oil is not a good idea. It can increase the chance of baby passing stool in utero.

it doesn't work. it's just on old wives tale. it can actually be dangerous because it can dehydrate you. think about it, if it really worked, wouldn't the hospitals use it instead of drugs to induce labor.

I would recommend letting the baby come on it's own.. obviously it is not ready for delivery yet!
