Im 13 weeks pregnant and had really bad pains at the top and side of my stomach and was getting migrains feeling faint and throwing up! Now i know thats not good so i called the NHS direct and i got told to go straight in so i did and got seen right away and all they done was took a water sample off me and done my blood pressure. How could they tell that the baby was ok if they didn't listen to the heart beat or do a scan? My cousin is a midwife and she told me that they sould have done one, same as my auntie say...she is a doctor! So what should have happened? All tehy told me at the hospital was that its just really growing pains and that i have to take codeine. Thanks Danni x

go bk in and insist they listen 2 ur baby's heart, and like other ppl, i to arent sure if its a gr8 idea taking codeine. i was abt 18 weeks when i had some really horrible bug that made it impossible for me to keep evn water down, and (lovely enuf) wen i went 2 the loo i wasnt sure wot end to put over the loo!! anyway, i was in for a night and they didnt listen for the baby or anything, which as i was so bloody weak i didnt think to question it. bloody ppl just kept making me drink n take paracetamol, so i checked myself out, figured im a big enuf girl 2 drink n stuff @ home.
anywayz, i went to the midwife as usual soon after n told her abt it, she told me that i sulda gone n thrown a paddy until they listened for the heart as its standard procedure. i went in a fair few times when i was 30 weeks + due to one reason or another and i was always shown to a room, placed on a monitor, BP taken n wee n bloods and that was b4 any1 had evn asked wot'd happened!

if u aint happy wiv it hunny throw a b1tch fit n MAKE them do it. evn if its just to set ur mind at ease.

by the way, Lilly was born 7th may weighing 7lb 10, thought u might like 2 kno...gd luck wiv urs! bet u cnt w8!

Codeine for a pregnant woman? I have never heard of that before!

While headaches and throwing up are very common in early pregnancy, I would say combined with the pains you were having, that warrants medical examination.

Better safe than sorry. It could just be the ligaments in your uterus stretching....but it could be something else, too.

I would go to a DIFFERENT doctor this time - or a very experienced midwife or ob gyn.

And I would stop taking the codeine and just try Tylenol until you get a second opinion.

some midwifes are actually so non caring its unreal they treat you like your something of a production line, if its your first child then your obviously worried, depends on the time day whether they scan you or not, they prob wouldn't give the time trying to listen for a heartbeat when your only 13 weeks, did they tell you to go to early pregnancy clinic next morning? to be honest hun unless your bleeding they're not interested, if your really worried and really feel like there's something really wrong then go back and ask to speak to someone in authority, meanwhile rest up and see how things go, people have different pain barriers, could very well be growing pains if so you have got many more to come lol, gud luk sweetie.

i dont think they would of gave you codien if they thought it was unsafe on the baby i would go to your midwife and get her to look for the heart beat and explain the pains you have had if she thinks there is any thing to worry about she will advise you on what to do. try not to worry hun x x

Did you tell them you were pregnant? I can't believe they prescribed codeine.

If your not happy go to your GP in the morning they might ask for certain tests to be carried out.
