More murder-suicides from the lone-star state. I guess the death penalty isn't really a deterrant after all, is it?

I am from Texas and I would NEVER harm my children! I have been crying for the last 20 minutes, how can a mom kill her own kids, it makes me sick, I didn't eat lunch and am sure I will not eat dinner either.

This is just one more indication that the death penalty is not a deterrent- and certainly not to the kind of unstable people who do this.

No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have it than in states that do not.

Now that Texas (like 47 other states) has life without parole on the books we will see if Texans rethink their views on the death penalty.

It is hard to label a state like you have. The numbers don't lie, but really what is going on there? I read a couple of people listing the migration of people from Katrina but that can't be the whole truth. I have traveled throughout Texas and find that people are very nice. There is a feeling that you are almost in another country at times because the further you go out from the bigger cities (Dallas, Ft Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston) you feel like you stepped back in time. I am not knocking it, but it is different.

Let's step back and say that AMERICA has a high murder & suicide rates and I don't think there is one person or group to blame. We see it on the media (huge factor), TV, Movies and Music. Let's face it violence sells and we are supporting it (either directly or indirectly). Maybe the hippies had it right....love, peace and so on.

Ain't Houston in TX? Last time I checked it was. I know this woman hung her kids. This is so damn sad. I hope the baby pulls through. There just seems to be a spate of them emanating from TX this year. It seems since death penalties are handed out like bubble gum and they move them into the express line, there is no fear of death there.

texas has people from all over the country and that includes criminals from all states. we have had a rise in crime after being gracious enough to take in thousands from louisiana and giving them more than they had there...........some good hard working people.....more criminals .they are still living in free housing, getting money and food stamps and medical care. they have it easy. they don't want to go home and new orleans doesn't want them. yes the death penalty works, but when you have to work with 2 or more states it sucks

I don't know what is going on with Texas, but for some reason you are far more likely to die a violent death in a Red state than in a Blue state.

An excellent topic. I went to Texas to live near two sisters and my mother. I found the people to have beliefs that they were bigger and better than people not from Texas. My own sister and her husband turned out to be real jerks. I even think he was firing a gun at my son and grandson in an effort to get them to move. My son and his wife and baby moved with me to NC where people seem to be real. Texas is a place full of jerks.. my source..the white house.

Texas is a scarey place. If the tornados dont kill you, the citizens will!

EDIT:
i might be bias. I lived there for 2 years while my husband was stationed there. I hated it so much!
