If you bought the computer from Dell, it probably came with Sonic RecordNow. You need that - or something like it - to record a CD or DVD.

You should be able to download the latest updates for the software that came with your computer from the Dell web site. You need to know your service tag number, then they allow access to a download site. I just did this in the last month, I know it works.

you need to buy/download (from the companies site) software such as Roxio, or Nero or any other burner software...
you might be able to find some free stuff at download.com, but you're better off getting a quality software package..

you also need to buy blank CD or DVDs, nothing to format unless you are using a RW (read-write) medium..

good luck

Hello,
A good burning software you should try is Ashampoo. It's one of the best free options available. Free download here: http://bit.ly/1lAUv2Y
It's amazing.

I'm not completely sure, but I think the drivers for them might be gone.
But just in case they aren't, check out this link, where they have CD/DVD BurnerXP Pro 3.0.116 software to download for free :

Good Luck.
